Taking a sacred pause at the Winter Solstice

Today (21 December) is the Winter Solstice.  The shortest day and the longest night, where the sun sometimes appears to hang still in the sky.

Time for a sacred pause… to look back on the year gone by, and begin to look forward to a new season. 😌

Astrologically we are now entering ‘winter’ and a period of deep hibernation, but many see this time as mid-winter, so it depends which calendar you follow.

The Winter Solstice ❄️ is sacred across many cultures and throughout history.  Traditionally, this was seen as a highly significant, spiritual and mystical day. I’m not a huge fan of Christmas 🎅🏽 but I love Winter Solstice and so today, is my special day of celebration! 🎄

Many of our ancestors would have celebrated too, with dancing, feasting and the lighting of fires 🔥 to welcome back the sunlight after those long weeks of darkness, and they would say ‘we have turned the year’. ⭕️

So today, if you glimpse the sun, ☀️ take a moment to reflect on your year gone by, and give gratitude 🙏for its guiding light.

We are moving forward, let’s turn the year!

This is a good time to:

🔸look back over your year, all that’s happened, all you have achieved, all you learned.

🔸hang a wreath on your front door to represent the beginning of a new cycle and the turning of the seasons.

🔸light a candle,🕯️gaze at the flame, breathe, take a sacred moment of quiet and stillness.

Celebrate this magical season… ❄️✨
