MY STORY

It probably all began as a teenager with a developing fascination in aromatherapy and a dream of becoming a massage therapist, but at the end of school my desire for social equality led me to teaching. My career spanned classroom teacher, local authority advisor, teacher trainer and national consultant for PSHE education. But, I never gave up on my interest in massage, studying in Indian Head Massage in the evenings whilst teaching primary school pupils during the day.

One day my Headteacher handed me an article about the Massage in Schools Programme, I attended the training and implemented it in my school. Seeing the positive effects on the children and families in my care, my course tutor encouraged me to complete the (IAIM) Infant Massage Instructor course. It is no exaggeration to say that these new qualifications changed my life, and in 2007, Buddha Baby was born!

My aim has always been to promote the power of positive touch and gentle movement, exploring how these two simple modalities contribute in such a huge way to our human wellness. I became really quite obsessed with the lack of opportunities for, and focus on, these basic primal instincts, right from babyhood through to adulthood, and felt determined that I could help.

From small seeds of ideas and interests, Buddha Baby has organically grown over nearly 20 years. It’s a wonderful journey and I have learned so much. Not least that life doesn’t always work out how you expect. Buddha Baby was not something I wrote in a business plan, it just kind of happened. I followed paths that captivated me and they led me where I am today. I fully expected I would have children, but Buddha Baby became my baby, and I realised that you can ‘mother’ in many ways!

I love running Buddha Baby and I love its place right in the heart of the Wanstead community. I’ve become well-known for the attention to detail and care I provide for my clients, and for the traditional, homemade cakes/biscuits I bake for some of my classes! I like my clients to feel ‘at home’. Everything I choose for Buddha Baby is done with care and consideration. At the heart of Buddha Baby, I believe that sometimes, it’s the simple things that make us the most happy - a cup of tea, a comfy cushion, a chat, homemade food, a lovely massage, a song, a smile… all of which you can find at Buddha Baby.

I love nothing more than baking in my little pink kitchen with the door swung open to the back garden and the radio on. I like a good cup of tea, a great Yoga class, anywhere a bit wild and windy, elephants, seahorses and ancient stories of goddesses!

Buddha Baby brings me so much joy and I hope what I offer will bring you joy too!

My training and qualifications

My clients deserve the best professional advice and guidance I can give and for that reason I am trained with the UK’s leading educational providers: IAIM (International Association of infant Massage), Birthlight (the pioneers of Baby Yoga), and MISA (Massage in Schools Association). I have practitioner’s diplomas in holistic massage, including from ITEC and City and Guilds. I’m a babywearing consultant trained with the School of Babywearing (Babywearing UK). I recently achieved 200 hours Yoga Teacher Training with fringe.yoga, and attended additional training from Birthlight, in Yoga for Breast Care and postnatal Yoga with Tara Lee. Buddha Baby is insured by BGI.
